Two points: 1) Luck. 2) Rules.
1) Luck plays a huge factor in many if not all wealthy people’s history. If it hadn’t been for “a” doing “b” at time “c”, then I never would have “d”. Change anything in that equation and poof, there goes the money. Wealth comes from savvy, intelligence, preparation, timing and, luck.
2) Rules which favor X over Y, for whatever reason, will always produce wealthy people who think they earned or deserved the wealth they accumulated. Think tobacco companies and the lack of rules to throttle their activities. Think every toxic dumping corporation before the EPA existed. With better, more equitable rules (Amendments) then more people could get “lucky” and build a thriving business.
