Neither the accrual of wealth nor frugality in an effort to preserve it are worthwhile endeavors. There’s the parable about the guy who built a giant barn to store all his wheat in, and he croaked. You can’t take it with you and legacy generally breeds deceit and avarice among those left to parse it out. Whew. I am the proverbial grasshopper. But I had a hell of a time fiddling while others toiled toward the same miseries age brings us all.

“Protect the wealth.” Many have given themselves this purpose. But I agree with Siddartha.
