Romania is mining WordPress

Looks like someone in Romania has decided to mine content here.

Each of ~60 posts were hit exactly once today. Don’t know what their intentions are, so it will be interesting to note what the future holds for such mining activity. FYI, the top-level domain for Romania is .ro.

We had a spate of content thieves from India about a year or more ago. They’ve subsequently vanished. Can’t imagine what the Romanians will do with the claptrap they found here… Good luck monetizing that, foolish nimrods.

  1. I had this happen a month or so ago. Made me think about leaving stuff up. It also happened from somewhere in Africa. 75 hits, 2 likes. I’m used to that sort of average. We’d be fucked if we ran up against a foreign language intellectual property suit for our own shit, huh? There was a female author who was selling some books and her publisher wanted to do some other language publishing. Couldn’t give books away in Brazil. Turns out her personal assistant was from Brazil and was sticking her name on the original author’s work and selling the shit out of them. To the point the public thought the original was a plagiarist. So if Bobby B is a hit in Romania, there it is.

        1. It might also have something to do with the fact that spammers probably need to use a desktop or laptop computer with a large screen to view my blog, which could be too powerful and feature-rich for iPad, iPhone, tablet or other portable devices to handle properly or adequately.

In addition, since my blog contains advanced styling and multimedia components plus animations, spammers might also encounter some issues in viewing my blog in the WordPress Reader, which tends to ignore or strip away some styling and formatting components, and also fails to display animations, all of which are aplenty in my posts and pages, which will look very different and even improper or amiss in the WordPress Reader. Of course, they can always access my posts and pages directly in my blog without going through the Reader.

By the way, how would you like me to address you? Should it be Anonymole or something else?

  2. Kudos to you for checking those daily. I only really notice when I get 50 likes from the same random person in a single day. I’ve been receiving HUNDREDS of spam comments every day for a couple of months now. Unfortunately, those don’t count as visitors to my blog. I asked the Happiness Engineers WTF, but they said hack is hack. You with your programming probably know more about this.
