This is a repost of a thought I had a few years ago. It’s a missive on how Phil Conners (Bill Murray) is Sisyphus. How, Phil had to not only accept his fate, but embrace it.

“I believe I can see the future
‘Cause I repeat the same routine
I think I used to have a purpose
Then again, that might have been a dream”
Or then again, it might have been a groundhog. You never know with Nine Inch Nails:-)

It’s funny, but I remember watching the film in philosophy 101 class in a different connection waay back in the day when we were studying Plato’s “Ring of Gyges.” The ring granted the wearer invisibility, and the question is, what would YOU do if no one could ever see you doing it? Sort of like how Phil Connors knew he’d get a do-over tomorrow and it didn’t really matter, until he decided to really live.

But in changing, Phil was redeemed. There was no possible redemption for Sisyphus.
