She climbed into the hot-air balloon, glad that she had written and signed her will. The bottle Fannie carried banged against the gondola. Merlot sloshed into Tim’s face.
“What the hell, Fannie?”
“Oops. Swig?”
“Don’t touch that.”
“This?”
“We’re not set yet.”
“Where do I sit?” Fannie slid into the corner. “Never mind. I’ll just…” hiccup, “when we launchin’?’”
Tim had climbed out to adjust the sandbags. “This is serious business. One screw up…”
“You mean like this?”
Fannie yanked the release. The balloon jumped into the air. Tim’s cries faded away. Fannie stood and stared out.
“This’ll work.”
