Not Haiku Tuesday: Lucky My Ass

Feeling lucky punk
preparation sets the tone
serendipity

Universe favors
those with low expectations
be happy with less

Shitty odds aside
fortune favors the foolhardy
says the survivor

With Dixie chickens
and chances with bartenders
and songs sung so well

Your fate has been set
stars are mapped planets aligned
sail the course assigned

Destiny debunked
free will is yours to command
take the lonely road

  1. Haiku, not haiku–who gives a shit? I just enjoy the poetry; I don’t bother to count syllables. “universe favours those with low expectations” yes, but you always meet my high ones:-)

  2. While it is actually none of my business, this is a lot of things, but it is not haiku. Neither is 5-7-5, but that’s a longer discussion. This IS poetry within the syllabic confines of 5-7-5, but not haiku. Open Mic Taco Tuesday with restrictive poetry, maybe with free range bongos. Not for me cheezwhiz reality uptight blind behind full moon eyes. Not haiku. Restrictive word play, yes. Not haiku. Just sayin’. Certain literary forms are not cafeteria style wordplay. Wanna bust your ass? Write a coupla sonnets, by the rules. Some of the same rule shit applies cross-curriculum to what you do for money. Freeeeeeeeee-dom! What price freeeeeee-dom? Find out, let me know.

    1. I know. I’ve written maybe three actual haikus in all of these Tuesdays. Don’t care if they are or are not. I’m enjoying, for the moment, writing them Saturday mornings for next Tuesday’s reveal. I suspect that’ll end here soon.

      Attempting Haiku
      abide syllable constraints
      but nuance ignored
